We offer multiple smart doorbells, though the main function and feature are identical, there are some differences in terms of installation and usage. In order to avoid some problems like high installation fee, painful installation experience, unreliable network connection, frequent maintenance, annoyed false motion detection…etc., It’s recommended to know these trivial differences.

Sun/Rain Shield

Both J1 and SD-M3 smart doorbells come with a sun/rain shield which can protect the smart doorbell away from direct sun light, dust, rain, snow. The smart doorbell has a camera, and CMOS image sensor is the core component of the camera. The direct sunlight/or strong light will cause irreversible damage to the image sensor. Hence, the smart doorbell should not be installed on place where the doorbell will face the direct sunlight. The sun/rain shield is helpful to overcome this.

Weatherproof/waterproof

J1 smart doorbell complies IP65 rated waterproof standard, it can be used for both indoor and outdoor environment. IP65 standard means the product has adopted full-sealed design, dust and water can not enter into the smart doorbell from every direction. J1 smart doorbell is the ideal smart doorbell for hash weather condition. It provides high reliability even under moisture/dusty/rainy environment.

Internal Battery

Only J1 has internal battery, because it’s a wireless smart doorbell. J1 smart doorbell has two pieces of 18650 battery, total 6700mAH capacity. It lasts approximately 6 months under normal usage condition. The battery can be charged through microUSB port, AC12-24V power source.

MicroSD Card Slot

All Tuya smart doorbell models have microSD card slot built-in to offer local storage. The maximum supported storage size is 128G. Though smart doorbell works properly without microSD card. After inserting a memory card, the doorbell can store pictures and video on it.

Power Over Ethernet (PoE)

Both SD-M3 and SD-M5 wired smart doorbell support Power over Ethernet. PoE means transmitting both power and data over Ethernet cable. This can greatly simplify installation and increase the reliability. The maximum distance is 100 meters, hence it’s suitable for installation which Ethernet port can be easily accessed. In a nutshell, just running the Ethernet cable between the PoE switch and smart doorbell, then smart doorbell will start to work.

Wired/Wireless Network Connection

J1 and J5 smart doorbell don’t have an Ethernet port, therefore only supporting wireless/Wi-Fi network connection. SD-M3 and SD-M5 have an Ethernet port, hence supporting both wireless and wired network connection. Wireless network connection provides easy installation, no network cable wiring and trenching are quired. However, wireless Wi-Fi coverage is small and vulnerable to interference. Wired network connection provides reliable network connection, distance is up to 100 meters, immune to wireless interference.

Wireless/Wired Access Control

If you have electric locks and want to integrated with smart doorbell, then you can select either SD-M3 and SD-M5. Both models support access control function, users can remotely control the electric locks through Tuya Smart/Smart Life app. The product provides both wireless and wired integration. For wired integration, users just wire the relay outputs of doorbell to the electric locks. For wireless integration, users can use the wireless lock module and install it on the side of electric lock.

Video Resolution and Viewing Angle

Except J5 features 2K resolution, other models support 1920x1080p FHD resolution, the frame rate is 25fps. All models support night vision, up to 5 meters. J5 smart doorbell provides 166-degree wide viewing angle, the rest of models support 140 degree viewing angle. Angle mount bracket is available for both J1 and J5 (it’s included in the box for J5).

PIR Motion Sensor

Only J1 and SD-M3 have a PIR motion sensor built-in. The PIR motion sensor can provide reliable occupancy/movement detection. It helps smart doorbell to filter false alarms when motion detection is enabled. Hence, you only receive push notifications when people approach the door. The passive infrared detection range is 5 meters and 110 degree. Users can adjust the detection sensitivity.
